The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), a prominent voice representing the interests of the northern youth in Nigeria, has refuted statements made by Honourable Aminu Sani Jaji, saying the claims did not only lack credibility but also serve as a smokescreen for his questionable political dealings that have come to light.

A statement issued by the President General of the forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima averred that Honourable Jaji has attempted to position himself as a champion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a proponent of unity within the party but viewed his actions as a calculated strategy to further his political ambitions, which have been marred by allegations of financial impropriety and deceit.

According to.the statement, “It is essential to highlight that Honourable Aminu Sani Jaji is widely recognized within political circles as a known political scammer. His most notorious venture, the organization known as “All For Baba,” was ostensibly established to galvanize support for President Muhammadu Buhari.

“However, it has become increasingly evident that this organization was merely a facade for a more sinister agenda—siphoning funds under the guise of political campaigning. Reports indicate that Jaji colluded with the former Director General of the State Security Services Bichi to misappropriate funds intended for legitimate political activities. This raises serious questions about his integrity and motives”.

Shettima queried, “how can a person who has engaged in such dubious practices claim to represent the interests of the people? The AYCF firmly believes that the people of Nigeria deserve leaders who are transparent and accountable, not those who exploit their trust for personal gain”.

The forum said, they find it curious that Honourable Jaji choose to address the press in Kaduna rather than his home base of Gusau, stressing that his decision appears to be a deliberate attempt to create further divisions within the APC, rather than fostering unity.

It further averred that by opting for Kaduna, a city with its own political dynamics and tensions, Jaji seems to be more interested in stirring controversy than in promoting cohesion within the party.

“The choice of location raises pertinent questions: Is Jaji attempting to manipulate the political landscape for his benefit? Does he seek to undermine the efforts of other party members who are genuinely committed to the APC’s success? The AYCF believes that such actions are counterproductive and detrimental to the collective goal of strengthening the party and serving the interests of the Nigerian people”.

The AYCF therefore urged the leadership of the APC to take a closer look at the actions of Honourable Jaji and called for accountability and integrity in political representation.

“The youth of Arewa and, indeed, all Nigerians deserve leaders who prioritize the welfare of the populace over personal ambition. It is time for the APC to distance itself from individuals who engage in deceitful practices and to reaffirm its commitment to transparency and good governance”.

The AYCF says it stands resolute in its condemnation of Honourable Jaji’s claims and actions and will continue to advocate for a political environment where integrity, accountability, and genuine service to the people are paramount, adding that the youth of Arewa are committed to holding leaders accountable and ensuring that those who seek to exploit our trust are brought to justice.

A scandal involving the Nigerian Customs Service has come to light, with allegations of N62 billion unremitted funds during the tenure of former Comptroller-General Hameed Ali. The Transparency and Budget Monitoring Group (TBMG) has condemned the alleged under-remittance, describing it as “unfortunate” and calling for an investigation.

The Senate Public Account Committee has initiated an investigation into the matter, giving the current Customs boss, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, a two-week ultimatum to provide a defense against the accusation. The Auditor General’s Report revealed the N62 billion disparity between the NCS’s reported total collection and actual remittance.

According to the report, the NCS reported a total collection of N691 billion for the federation account, but only remitted N629 billion into the account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). This development comes amidst concerns over corruption and financial mismanagement within the Nigerian government.

The TBMG is urging the Senate to launch a comprehensive investigation into the outstanding debts and financial discrepancies. The group is also demanding that Hameed Ali be investigated and prosecuted over the alleged under-remittance.

The TBMG’s call for investigation and prosecution aims to ensure transparency and accountability within the Nigerian Customs Service. This is not the first time the Customs Service has been embroiled in a scandal. Recently, some high-ranking officers of the Nigerian Customs Service were suspected in a multi-billion naira corruption scandal [2).

Additionally, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, is under pressure amidst revenue target shortfalls and suspected fraud in the agency ¹. The controversy revolves around allegations of a double standard in Adeniyi’s handling of two senior officers implicated in a financial scam involving N15 billion.

Kaduna – The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has strongly condemned the mob killing of 16 travelers in Udune Efandion, Uromi, Edo State, calling for immediate justice and accountability. The victims, mostly Hausa hunters traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano for the Sallah celebrations, were allegedly lynched over false accusations of kidnapping.

In a statement issued by AYCF President-General, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, the organization expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event, describing it as an inhumane act of lawlessness. According to Shettima, the victims were intercepted at about 1:30 p.m. by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes before being handed over to an irate mob.

“This is a clear case of extrajudicial execution. Innocent Nigerians were falsely accused and subjected to mob violence in a most horrific manner. We condemn this in the strongest terms and demand that all those responsible be brought to justice,” Shettima stated.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that some of the victims were forcibly removed from their vehicle using wheelbarrows and thrown into flames, while others were burned inside the van. The AYCF described this as a terrifying escalation of mob justice, warning that failure to address such acts could deepen ethnic tensions and threaten national unity.

The group urged the government to immediately investigate the incident and ensure that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law. “Justice must be swift and decisive. This level of impunity must not be allowed to stand. If left unchecked, it will only encourage further bloodshed,” Shettima said.

While acknowledging the pain and anger within the Hausa community in Uromi and beyond, the AYCF appealed for calm and discouraged retaliatory actions. The group emphasized that the rule of law must prevail over emotions and urged affected communities to seek redress through lawful means.

“We understand the grief and outrage, but revenge is not the answer. The authorities must act now to ensure justice, and we will continue to push for accountability through legal and peaceful means,” Shettima reassured.

The AYCF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the families of the victims and ensuring that such an atrocity does not happen again. It also called on security agencies to do more to curb the rising wave of mob violence across the country.

The Kaduna Good Governance Forum (KGGF) is calling out former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his Commissioners for spreading falsehoods about Kaduna’s revenue generation.

El-Rufai claimed that the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) decreased from N7 billion to N2 billion monthly under Governor Uba Sani’s administration.

However, the KGGF in Statement signed by the Secretary, Comrade Tijanni Usman presented records showing that Kaduna State generated ₦62.41 billion in 2023, with the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) contributing 77.1% (₦48.13 billion). In 2024, the IGR increased by 12.5% to ₦70.22 billion, with KADIRS contributing 73.8% (₦51.87 billion) of the total revenue.

The forum attributed the improvement to Governor Uba Sani’s prioritization of robust revenue sector reforms, including the introduction of an electronic portal for revenue collection. This has helped surpass the best years under El-Rufai’s administration.

“The available records reveal that between January and February 2025 alone, ₦14.16 billion was collected proving that revenue mobilization under Uba Sani is not only stable, but growing.

“It’s worth noting that Governor Uba Sani’s administration has been recognized for its efforts in revenue generation.”it stated .

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Kaduna State was ranked as the leading revenue-generating state in Northern Nigeria in 2023, with an impressive N62.48 billion in IGR .

The Centre for Energy Development and Economic Sustainability (CEDES) has strongly condemned the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) over its recent ‘Dollars for Crude’ policy. CEDES warns that this move is a deliberate attempt to cripple local refineries and sustain Nigeria’s dependence on fuel imports.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Dr. Umar Sani, Executive Director of CEDES, accused the NNPCL of working against national interest by prioritizing foreign exchange gains over the survival of local refiners.

He noted that the Naira-for-Crude arrangement had ensured steady crude supply to Nigerian refineries while helping the government save on foreign exchange and reinvest in critical infrastructure.

“It is outrageous that the NNPCL, instead of strengthening local refining, has decided to sabotage it by imposing a dollars-for-crude system,” Sani said. “This policy is designed to choke local refineries, making it impossible for them to access crude oil at reasonable rates.”

Sani further stated that the ultimate goal of the policy is to force Nigeria back into total reliance on fuel imports, which benefits only a corrupt few. He emphasized that under the Naira-for-Crude system, the NNPCL could no longer make bogus claims of petrol imports to justify billions of dollars in subsidies.

The policy ensured transparency, saved the government huge amounts in foreign exchange, and allowed for reinvestment in developmental infrastructure. However, with the new move, Nigeria is back to a system where crude oil is sold in dollars, fueling corruption and economic instability.

CEDES warned that the NNPCL’s latest move could lead to higher fuel prices, petrol scarcity, worsening inflation, and further hardship for Nigerians. The centre called on the federal government to immediately reverse the policy and uphold the Naira-for-Crude system to support local refining and economic stability.

“We demand that the government reinstate the Naira-for-Crude policy and stop this reckless sabotage of local refineries,” Sani stated. “The NNPCL must not be allowed to undermine Nigeria’s energy security and economic sovereignty.”

The fate of Nigeria’s local refineries and the country’s economic stability hang in the balance as the federal government considers CEDES’ call to reverse the ‘Dollars for Crude’ policy.

The Association of Nigerian Professionals in Europe (ANPE) has condemned the recent imposition of a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reverse the decision and restore democratic governance in the state

Last Tuesday March 18, 2025, President Bola Tinubu relying on Section 305 of the Constitution, declared a state of emergency in Rivers, citing the protracted political crisis and vandalisation of oil facilities.

The president suspended Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state; Ngozi Odu, his deputy; and all house of assembly members; for six months.

Tinubu also appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice-admiral, as the sole administrator for Rivers state.

On Thursday, both Senate and the House of Representates ratified the Tinubu’s request for the emergency rule through voice votes, a development that has continued to raise questions.

ANPE in a statement issued by its Global President, Dr. Philip Fola, on Tuesday, expressed deep concern over the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other elected officials, describing the move as unconstitutional and damaging to Nigeria’s democratic reputation. The group warned that such actions could erode investors’ confidence and further destabilise the nation’s fragile economy.

ANPE argued that the imposition of emergency rule signals a dangerous shift toward authoritarianism, undermining the principles of federalism and due process enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. The group noted that Nigeria, once hailed as a beacon of democracy in Africa, is now facing growing criticisms.

“The suspension of elected officials without due process is a clear violation of democratic norms,” the statement read. Nigeria’s reputation as a stable investment destination is at stake. This arbitrary abrogation of constitutional procedures erodes trust in Nigeria’s dedication to democratic values, which discourages potential investors. It is a fact that the Nigerian Constitution delineates the processes for addressing grievances against elected officials, none of which is the unilateral imposition of a state of emergency by the federal government. By ignoring this legal procedure, the President not only set a dangerous precedent but also signalled a disregard for the principles of federalism. This authoritarian manoeuvre has drawn criticism from international observers, destroying Nigeria’s status as an investment destination.

“It is a thing of disappointment that our beloved country which was once praised as a beacon
of democracy in Africa, is gradually being perceived by international communities as a nation that is failing in its democratic ideals. Many international bodies and foreign governments have expressed disapproving concerns over the erosion of democratic norms in Nigeria. This
perception has been further exacerbated by the actions of President Tinubu as an emergent
dictator in the international circuit. Such descriptions, whether accurate or hyperbolic, have
had a chilling effect on Nigeria’s global standing, tarnishing its reputation as a stable and democratic investment destination”, the group said.

The statement further accused the National Assembly of failing in its duty to check executive overreach, calling on lawmakers to investigate the constitutionality of the emergency rule in Rivers State. ANPE also urged the judiciary to uphold the rule of law by ensuring that constitutional procedures are followed in addressing political crises.

“Furthermore, the Association of Nigerian Professionals in Europe (ANPE) is deeply troubled by the decision made by some of the key stakeholders in the face of this constitutional crisis. It is unfortunate that the National Assembly which is tasked with checking executive excesses and upholding the Constitution, has become a disappointment in executing its role as a bulwark against authoritarianism.

“Their support for this blatant violation of constitutional norms is a disgrace to Nigerians in the diaspora. We call on the National Assembly to reinvestigate this matter thoroughly and to take appropriate action to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy. We also call on the judiciary to adjudicate on the constitutionality of the state of emergency and to ensure that the rule of law prevails”, the group said.

Emphasising the economic implications of political instability, ANPE warned that foreign investors may withdraw or withhold investments due to uncertainty about Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance. “We in the diaspora have worked tirelessly to promote Nigeria as an investment-friendly nation, but this crisis has made our efforts difficult,” the group lamented.

While calling for immediate reconciliation and dialogue, ANPE urged the federal government to respect state autonomy and democratic institutions. “The strength of our nation lies in our unity and commitment to democracy. President Tinubu must rectify this aberration to safeguard Nigeria’s democratic integrity and economic viability,” the statement added.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s development and called on all Nigerians—both at home and abroad—to defend democracy, justice, and the rule of law.

The organization described the allegations as malicious and unfounded, urging all stakeholders to support Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

According to Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the allegations are a deliberate fabrication designed to incite chaos and destabilize the electoral landscape. He emphasized that INEC’s credibility and neutrality have improved significantly, making it essential for all stakeholders to support the commission.

Isiguzoro noted that the allegations are a calculated attack aimed at undermining INEC’s integrity, which is vital to Nigeria’s democracy. He described the allegations as malicious falsehoods peddled by the anti-democratic group known as the South-South Alliance, allegedly manipulated and funded by unscrupulous politicians.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo denounced the campaign of calumny, identifying it as the treacherous handiwork of fifth columnists seeking to disrupt the democratic process. The organization implored INEC to dismiss the baseless accusations as distractions intentionally devised to draw attention away from their critical responsibilities.

Isiguzoro emphasized the importance of safeguarding INEC’s integrity, which represents the cornerstone of Nigeria’s electoral democracy. He noted that the Nigerian populace is aware of the unfolding political drama surrounding the proposed recall of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

According to Isiguzoro, it is profoundly undemocratic for shadowy figures and obscure factions to create artificial panic through spurious allegations against INEC. He warned that such actions, if not curtailed, pose a significant risk of inciting violence that could culminate in the destruction of INEC offices and threaten the safety of its officials across the nation.

Isiguzoro expressed concern over reports of clandestine plans by unprincipled politicians to exploit the ongoing political crisis between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. He stated that such maneuvers are designed to orchestrate chaos and manipulate the public narrative surrounding Professor Yakubu and his pivotal role at INEC.

Arewa Progressives Elders Forum(APEF) took a swipe at  the Former Youths and Sports Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung for failing to settle the overpayment of 135 thousand Dollars made to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) during his days as Minister.

According to the Forum, the failure to pay the funds erroneously credited into account of Athletics Federation of Nigeria,no doubt dented the country’s image .

The IAAF in 2017 erroneously sent $150,000 to the AFN instead of the annual $15,000 it usually gives to its affiliates. And subsequently on May 13, 2018 wrote to AFN asking for a refund when it discovered that the whereabouts of the excess could not be traced.

However, the then Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung who acknowledged receipt of the funds failed to refund until he left office in 2019 .

In a press statement made available to journalists in Kaduna today, the Forum described Dalung as a “Political Misfit” who brought shame to his country.

The statement signed by the Chairman Mal. Mustapha Jalingo, said, ” It’s unfortunate that same Dalung that damage Nigeria’s reputation with such despicable financial scandal could come out to accuse Tinubu of making a historic mistake by worsening economic hardship in the North.”

While stating that the likes of Dalung should be languishing in prison for misappropriating public funds and act of  corruption, the Elders Forum noted,”He who must come to equity must come with clean hands.We are pretty sure it was that act of National disgrace that informed President Muhammadu Buhari decision to drop him as a minister.”

The group however, commended his successor ,the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare, who later  approved the refund of the $135,000  IAAF Misappropriated Funds.

Meanwhile, the Forum  which said it’s not to late to take legal action against Dalung ,urged the relevant anti graft agencies to immediately arrested and prosecuted him for bringing shame to the country .
